Banatul Philharmonic of Timișoara
The Banat Philharmonic ( Filarmonica romanian Banatul ) is a musical establishment of the West Romanian city of Timişoara in the Banat region. It consists of a symphony orchestra, a choir and various ensembles of chamber music. The building of the Philharmonic Hall is located in the first district Chetatea, close to the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral.
History and occupations
The Philharmonic Society was founded in 1871 in what was then Temesvár. Conductors have included Heinrich Weidt Martin Novácek, and Bruno Walter 1898-1899 During this period included performances by the pianist Bela Bartok and Johannes Brahms.; the cellist David Popper; and the violinist Leopold Auer, George Enescu, Joseph Joachim Jan Kubelik, František Ondříček, Pablo de Sarasate and Henryk Wieniawski here, as well as Gheorghe Dima.
The Timisoara Philharmonic Association consisted mainly of a male choir, also according to the statute solo concerts, chamber music, Synfonieorchester, oratorio and mixed choirs are provided. Other artists in Timişoara was the pianist Annie Fischer, Artur Rubinstein and Carlo Zecchi; Bronisław Huberman, the violinist, Fritz Kreisler, Jacques Thibaud and Eugène Ysaÿe; and the cellist Pablo Casals and Gregor Piatigorsky.
The orchestra had guest appearances in many European countries, eg in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, the former Yugoslavia, in the Netherlands and in Spain.
Initially held its concerts at the opera. Since 1969, the Banat Philharmonic organizes the festival Timişoara muzicala, initially every two years and every year since 1980. Since 1981 also the George Enescu Music Festival ( Zilele muzicale George Enescu ) is organized annually in September.
In late 2006, the building of the former Capitol Cinema by law to RADEF România film, which was managed by the city, withdrawn and appropriated to the Ministry of Culture. Since then, a guest here the Banat Philharmonic.
Avenue of musicians

Building management
The building of the Banat Philharmonic was built in 1929 from local funds.
