Barcelonnette

Barcelonette is a commune with 2667 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north- east of the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence, Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. Very close to the Italian border Barcelonette between Provence, Piedmont, and the Dauphiné. Nestled between two mountain ranges is Barcelonette a mountain town in 1138 meters in the heart of the Valley of Ubaye and is its largest city.

Geography

The municipality is located in a wide, fertile valley on the right bank of the Ubaye and is a well-known summer resort.

Barcelonette is the seat of sub-prefecture in the eponymous arrondissement.

The city for the so-called "Villas mexicaines " is known. Many emigrants from Barcelonette and environment studied in the 19th century economic success in Mexico.
