The Samtgemeinde Bardowick is an integrated municipality in the northwest of the district of Lüneburg, in Lower Saxony.

Neighboring communities
The integrated municipality borders the Samtgemeinde Salzhausen, to the city of Winsen ( Luhe), the Elbmarsch ( in the district of Harburg) and the Municipality Scharnebeck, the unit Adendorf community, the city of Lüneburg, Samtgemeinde Gellersen in the district of Lüneburg.

History
In the late 1960s / early 1970s, the community should be Vögelsen district of Lüneburg. Vögelsen, however, was against it because it was just growing. So the municipalities planned Bardowick, Mechtersen and Vögelsen to form themselves into a Samtgemeinde. However, this was not liked by the district of Lüneburg. Only when the Lower Saxony Ministry of Interior agreed to, the Municipality could be established. On July 1, 1969, the velvet municipality by Bardo Wick, Mechtersen and Vögelsen was finally established. On 1 March 1974 the Wittorf, St. Dionysius, Barum, Handorf, Radbruch members.
End of 2003, several trains were formed from the individual volunteer fire departments of the velvet municipality. Bardowick represents the train Bardowick place as a priority military. The fire departments Mechtersen, Radbruch and Vögelsen form the train west, and the North train is formed by the local fire departments Handorf, Wittorf, Barum, Horburg and St. Dionys.

The mayor was Samtgemeinde to 31 October 2011, Günter Dubber ( CDU). His successor was elected on 11 September 2011 Heiner Luhmann ( CDU).

Partner communities since 1995, the commune Skoki in Poland and the community Drechterland in the Netherlands since 1 January 2006 ( from 1970 to 2005, the municipality had Venhuizen, which merged into the municipality Drechterland the partnership held ).
