Queensland

The Barwon Highway is a highway in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. It connects the Leichhardt Highway ( NA39 ) in Goondiwindi with the Carnarvon Highway ( R46 ) in Nindigully, 44 km south-east of St. George.

The road got its name from the Barwon River, in the same direction as it flows, but further south, on the border with New South Wales.

National Road 85

The highway was formerly part of the old National Road 85, which extends over the Gore Highway ( NA39 ), the New England Highway (A3 ), the Esk Hampton Road ( S85), the Brisbane Valley Highway ( S85) and the D' Aguilar Highway ( S85) lasted until after Caboolture.

The highest point in the course of the highway is 236 m and the lowest at 181 m.

Cattle drive route

How many Australian roads also follows the Barwon Highway an old cattle drive route. Road corridor is wider than the other lines (up to 1.600 m). Looking at an aerial image (or satellite image from Google Maps ) you can clearly see the large width at the western Endedes corridor ( between Talwood and Nindigully ) at the different colors for the acacia bushland and for the adjacent agricultural land.
