Caboolture, Queensland

Caboolture is a city in southeastern Queensland, Australia. Caboolture is located about 50 kilometers north of Brisbane and about 130 kilometers south of Gympie. The city has about 15,000 inhabitants. Caboolture is considered the northern end of the Brisbane Metropolitan Area, but at the same time as the southern end of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

By March 2008, Caboolture center and administrative headquarters was the Shires same name. After the regional elections in March, the Caboolture Shire was amalgamated with the Shire of Pine Rivers and Redcliffe and founded the city of Moreton Bay Regional Council.

History

The area around Caboolture was traditionally inhabited by Aborigines. The name Kabultur is derived from the Aboriginal language and means as much as the place of carpet pythons. This non-toxic snake is still frequently encountered among many other venomous species in the suburbs and around the city.

In 1842 the land was released to the former Moreton Bay penal colony for the settlement by free settlers. Due to their proximity to the penal colony, the area was one of the first to Caboolture that were colonized by European settlers.

Caboolture is a major transportation hub in the area. The city is located on the Bruce Highway, which runs from the capital Brisbane to Cairns in the tropical north.
