Gympie

Gympie is a city in the Australian state of Queensland, with 10,933 inhabitants. It is located about 160 kilometers north of Brisbane at an altitude of about 95 m at the Mary River.

After discovery of gold was established in 1867 in the pasture settlements north of Brisbane, the gold mining town of Gympie. It is said that the discovery had that time saved the standing facing bankruptcy state of Queensland.

By 1925, about 99 tonnes of gold have been mined. After that, the place turned over to agriculture, especially livestock and dairy industry determine the revenue of the city. Gympie is the administrative headquarters of the 2008 newly created local administrative area in Gympie Regional Council.
