Nambour, Queensland

Nambour is a town in south-east Queensland, Australia, 101 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is located in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast at the foot of the Blackall Range. Nambour is the administrative headquarters of the local government area ( LGA) Sunshine Coast Regional Council and has around 13,500 inhabitants.

The city's name comes from the Aboriginesprache of NAAMBA what " rotblühender tea tree " means.

History

The region was first settled by Europeans in 1870 under Matthew Carroll. First, the settlement Peetrie 's Creek was named, but renamed in 1891 in Nambour, according to a livestock operation in the region. It was also completed the rail link to Brisbane in 1891.

Economy

The most important economic factor in the region has so far been the cultivation of sugar cane. Until 2003 there was a mill in the city center, which was important for the sugar industry, but now is the sugar cane cultivation in the region due to the closure of the mill in the balance.

Lately more and more exotic fruits are grown in the region, such as the pineapple, the product is often cultivated. The other new economic factor in the region is tourism.
