St. George (Queensland)

St. George is a small town in the outback in southwestern Queensland, Australia. It lies about 520 kilometers from Brisbane and about 390 kilometers from Toowoomba away at Balonne River. The city has about 3,800 inhabitants and is the seat of the local government area ( LGA) Balonne Shire Council. Its name from the city of explorers Thomas Livingstone Mitchell, the Balonne River on April 23, 1846, the St. George 's Day, crossed and this place called St. Georges Bridge. The city was founded in 1862 at this point.

St. George is a regional agricultural center. It is one of Australia's most important growing areas for cotton. However, wheat, fruits and vegetables are just as important, just like the cattle and sheep. The Balonne River and the water reservoirs around the city offer excellent opportunities for anglers.

St. George is a major transportation hub in southwestern Queensland. In and around the city center to meet several major highways to each other: from Cunnamulla in the west of Balonne Highway, from Roma in the north and of the south of the Carnarvon Highway Mungindi, of Dalby in the east of the Moonie Highway and from Dubbo in New South Wales the Castlereagh Highway.

Among the highlights of the city is an impressive collection of Emueiern. The eggs were created over a period of 40 years by Steve Margaritis. This hand- carved pattern in the eggs and lit it from the inside. The eggs have been shown at several World's Fairs and international shows. Today the Emueier are shown as a permanent exhibition in St. George.
