Roma (Queensland)

Roma is located at the node of several highways. From Charleville in the west comes the Warrego Highway, which extends further to the east by Dalby and Toowoomba. From St. George to the south of the Carnarvon Highway reaches the city. Roma has a train station and connection to the rail network by Queensland Rail.

Roma is the center of a rich agricultural district. Wheat, oranges and wine are grown and processed on a large scale. Another important industry in Rome and the surrounding area is cattle ranching. In Roma is the largest stockyard of Australia, with more than 350,000 sold cattle a year. There are also several large plantations and sawmills.

In the near Roma natural gas deposits were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the natural gas is supplied through a pipeline to Brisbane. There are also plans for a power plant that will be built on site and to supply the southeast Queensland electricity.
