Bašovce

Bašovce (Hungarian Bassóc ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 343 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Piešťany, part of Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the hill country Trnavská pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowland ), on the terrace of the hall Dudváh. The center is located at an altitude of 165 m nm and is eight kilometers away from Piešťany.

History

In today's municipality (4600 BC to 3800 BC ) was located in the Stone Age a settlement ( Linear Pottery culture). A Slavic settlement was located here in the 9th century.

The town was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as Bessan writing. End of the 14th century belonged to the manor of Castle Bašovce Čachtice, 1414 by Augustinian provost in the nearby town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom. 1828 are listed 51 houses and 359 inhabitants. Main source of income was and is agriculture, in the late Middle Ages viticulture was also significant.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Neutra place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today.

1976 Bašovce was merged together with the neighboring Veľké Orvište in the community Orvište which in turn was incorporated in 1980 in the municipality of Ostrov. In 1993, the town got independence again.
