The Battle of Numistro was a battle between Hannibal on the side of the Carthaginians and the troops of Marcellus on the part of the Roman Empire in about 210 BC

Prehistory

After the Second Battle of Herdonia ran out victorious for the Carthaginians, Hannibal left the city Numistro plunder as they fought on the side of the Romans. He set up his camp on a hill outside the city and expected an attack the consul Marcus Claudius Marcellus, who furiously pursued the Carthaginians for his defeat at Herdonia. The Roman army encamped on the plain, which is why Marcellus had a bad starting position for the fight. He attempted a surprise attack on Hannibal at dawn, but this failed due to the vigilance of the Carthaginian guard. There was a battle of two armies in itself wedged.

Expiration

The battle lasted for a whole day, without the generals could make much use of their strategies. At dusk, the fight was stopped due to fatigue of the warriors. The next day the Carthaginians were off again, followed closely by the Romans. This persecution ended in the battle of Asculum.
