Beaufort (Victoria)

Beaufort is a town in the state of Victoria in Australia, and is located midway between Ballarat and Ararat Western Highway and is a stopping point on the journey from Adelaide to Melbourne. Beaufort is the administrative headquarters of the Local Government Area ( LGA) Pyrenees Shire.

During the gold rush in the mid-19th century, there were up to 100,000 people, today (2006 ) there are only about 1100.
