Bedourie, Queensland

Bedourie is a small town in the Channel Country of Central West Queensland, Australia. It is situated on a sand dune at Eyre Creek, about 1600 kilometers west of Brisbane and 200 kilometers north of Birdsville. At the census in 2006 there were 142 inhabitants in bedourie and environment. Twenty years ago, there were only 60 people.

In bedourie is the administrative center of Diamantina Shire Local Government Area, which also includes the other two cities Birdsville and Betoota belong. In 1953, the administrative headquarters of Birdsville was moved to bedourie.

Here a hotel was built of mud bricks as early as the 1880s. There are also in bedourie a library, a museum, Outback golf course, a tourist information center, a racetrack and an airfield. In case of heavy flooding of the Georgina River, the city is no longer to reach by road for months.
