Benjamin Whitrow

John Benjamin Whitrow ( born February 17, 1937 in Oxford, England ) is a British theater and film actor.

Life

John Benjamin Whitrow in 1937, the son of Philip and Mary Whitrow Alexandra Whitrow (born Flaubert DERs ) in Oxford to the world. After attending the Dragon School in Oxford and Tonbridge School in Tonbridge is Whitrow was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art for a theater actor. In the late 1960s he joined the National Theatre Company, with whom he regularly appeared until the mid- 1970s at the Old Vic Theatre in London in such plays as Oedipus the King, The Merchant of Venice, The School for Scandal, or What You Will. In 1981 he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

From 1964 he was repeatedly seen in British television films and series, including detective Blunt ( Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime, 1983). From 1982 he also played supporting roles in a number of movies, such as in Hawks - The Hawks ( Hawks, 1988), Restoration - Time Sensuality ( Restoration, 1995) and The Saint - The Saint ( The Saint, 1997).

He gained a cynical Mr. Bennet in BBC television miniseries Pride and Prejudice ( Pride and Prejudice, 1995) starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth international recognition. For this role Whitrow was nominated for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor.

With the actress Celia Imrie, he has a son named Angus ( * 1994).
