Berg, St. Gallen

Berg is a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen. It is located in the constituency Rorschach.

Mountain is located near Lake Constance in Arbon.

Geography

Mountain is strong at the slope of the lake ( lateral moraine of the former Rhine glacier ). This causes a strong gradient within the village. Berg has lost some of its significance, has existed since the slip road to the A1 and the two nearest major conurbations Arbon and St. Gallen a motorway connection to call their own. Previously, the only connection between the two cities was an arduous Kantonstrasse the lake ridge up which performs exactly mountain.

The village is divided into a main part ( Unterberg ) and a sub- part (Upper Hill), this has historical roots.

History

Due to the settlement activity in Arbon and St. Gallen due dodged into the rolling hills around St. Gallen in the Middle Ages farmers. In the year 796 already made the separation in the lower and upper mountain. 1650 for the first time a school house was built, in 1737 a free school.

1777 the parish church of St. Michael was built. 1803 Mountain by the dissolution of the monastery of St. Gallen to the political community Steinach, but separated in 1832 from her again. The separation from today also independent Tübach was 1845. The Gemeindegut was extremely limited at this time and consisted of a share of the infirmary Bruggen and a small cash assets for the school and the poor of the town.
