Bernard Blair

Bernard Blair ( born May 24, 1801 in Williamstown, Massachusetts, † May 7, 1880 in Salem, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1841 and 1843 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bernard Blair was born in the beginning of the 19th century in Williamstown. He attended public schools and completed his preparatory studies. In 1825, he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown. In the same year he moved to Salem in Washington County. He studied law. His admission to the bar he received in 1828, then began to practice in Salem. He also got admission as a Solicitor and Counselor at the New York Court of Chancery. Politically he belonged to the Whig party.

In the congressional elections of 1840 for the 27th Congress Blair was in the twelfth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of David Abel Russell after March 4, 1841. He retired after the March 3, 1843 out of the Congress.

After his conference time he went back to his work as a lawyer after. He died on 7 May 1880 in Salem and was buried there in the Evergreen Cemetery.
