Bernese Alps in the wide sense

The Bernese Alps in the broader sense, the section 12 of the SOIUSA Mountain classification and also section 12 of the Partizione delle Alpi classification. They consist of the Bernese Alps in the strict sense, the Urner Alps and Vaud Alps.

The highest mountain is the Finstaarhorn with 4'274 m.

  • Bounded on the north by the Swiss Alps by (from west to east) Gryonne Valley, Col de la Croix, Dar, Stigellegi, Simme, Horny Bach, Kander, Hohtürli, Sefinental, Trümmeltal, Imfysteren ditch, Grosse Scheidegg, Reichenbach, Aare, Gental, Joch Pass, Grosstal and Isital
  • In the West separated at the Savoy Alps by the Rhone
  • Bounded on the southwest by the Valais Alps by the Rhone Valley
  • Isolated on the southeast by the Lepontine Alps through Goms, Furka Pass, Garschen, Urseren and Furkareuss
  • To the east by the Glarus Alps, in the broad sense defined by Reuss and Reuss Valley
