Bernex (Haute-Savoie)

Bernex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Bernex is at 948 m above sea level. M., 15 km east of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Chablais, in the Valley of Ugine, which forms the eastern end of the Pays de Gavot, in the northern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​22.31 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern Chablais Alps. The strong in relief community area occupies a large part of the catchment area of Ugine, which opens into the Dranse d' Abondance. Neighboring communities of Bernex are Lugrin and Thollon -les- Mémises in the north, Novel in the east, and Vacheresse Chevenoz in the south and Vinzier and Saint- Paul-en -Chablais in the West.

Attractions

The village church of Saint -Ours was built in 1850. Also worth mentioning is the Grotte de Notre -Dame-de -Lourdes, which is located at Maupas.

Population

With 1245 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Bernex is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous growth of the population was recorded. Outside of the old village created numerous single-family homes and apartments.

Economy and infrastructure

Bernex was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Meanwhile, the village has developed into a summer and winter sport resort with various tourist facilities. The slopes south of Bernex are developed by several mountain railways and ski lifts.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Access is via a connecting road from Evian- les- Bains or from the valley of the Dranse.
