Bernhard Sigmund Schultze

Bernhard Sigmund Schultze, Bernhard Sigismund Schultze and Bernhard Sigmund Schultze -Jena, ( born December 29, 1827 in Freiburg im Breisgau, † April 17, 1919 in Jena ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician.

Life

Schultze was born the son of Karl August Sigismund Schultze (1795-1877), a physician and professor of anatomy and physiology 1827 in Freiburg. He came from a scholar - officials and family. His brother Max John Sigismund Schultze (1825-1874) was an anatomist and zoologist. The brothers August Sigismund Schultze and Richard Sigismund Schultze were lawyers. His nephew, Oskar Max Sigismund Schultze, was, like his father, Max Johann Sigismund, anatomist and professor of the subject area at the University of Würzburg, his son Kurt Schultze -Jena professor of surgery.

Bernhard Schultze studied at the universities of Greifswald and Berlin, where he was a junior assistant at the surgical clinic under Bernhard von Langenbeck was active in 1851. Schultze in 1851 at the University of Greifswald with the dissertation: De genesi adipis pathologica. doctorate. The state examination, he graduated from 1851 to 1852 in Berlin. In 1853 he qualified as a professor in Greifswald for anatomy and physiology, and received the title of Privatdozent. Schultze, however, felt more attracted to the practice of medicine. In 1854 he became an assistant at the University Women's Hospital in Berlin under Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch. In 1856 he was habilitated there for the field of gynecology and professor of obstetrics and diseases of women. As was appointed in 1858 after the death of Busch Eduard Arnold Martin to Berlin, he followed, as its successor, the reputation of the University Hospital Jena. In the winter semester 1864/65 was Bernhard Sigmund Schultze Rector of the University in Jena. In 1903 he retired from the academic teaching. On March 27, 1903, he was appointed counsel on this occasion to the privy and honorary citizenship of the city of Jena. 1912 he and his family was given as a sign of honor from the University of Jena the suffix " Jena ", after which the entire family Schultze -Jena said. Bernhard Sigmund Schultze -Jena died at the age of 91 years in Jena.

Work

Bernhard Sigmund Schultze earned special merits for his work on the gynecological examination methods, the revival asphyktischer newborns, treatment of uterine diseases and midwifery.
