Berni Collas

Bernard " Berni" Collas (* April 27, 1954 in Weismes; † 16 September 2010 in Brussels) was a Belgian politician of the Party for Freedom and Progress ( PFF ) or Mouvement Réformateur ( MR). He was a member of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, 2004-2010 Community senator since 1990.

Life

Berni Collas, a trained translator ( IESLC, 1976) and political scientists (VUB, 1984), worked from 1978 to 1999 with a Belgian financial institution, this is mainly in the international arena. At the same time, he was from 1985 to 1990, President of the PFF- local section Büllingen.

In 1990 he made the jump for the PFF in the Council (later the Parliament) of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, where he was the chairman of his faction to 1999. From September 1999 to September 2003 Collas worked as a technical adviser in the office of the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Louis Michel ( MR), and from 2003 until January 2004 in the Cabinet of the Minister of Finance Didier Reynders ( MR).

In 2004, Collas was determined by the Parliament of the German-speaking Community to the so called Community senator. In the Senate, he deposited the legislative proposals that provide that the federal legislative texts that are only published in Dutch and French to translate now with and into German (also called " Collas - laws", see also language legislation in Belgium). He was also Vice President of the Committee of Inquiry of the Senate, which dealt with the incidents around the " Fortis affair" in the years 2008-2009. In January 2010, Collas, however, had his Senate seat back, after the majority of the Parliament, in execution of the Coalition Agreement, the Government of the German-speaking Community under Karl -Heinz Lambertz ( SP), the former Senator and Speaker of Parliament Louis Siquet ( SP) chose to Community senator.

Berni Collas died unexpectedly on 16 September 2010 and was survived by his wife and three children.
