Besednice

Besednice ( German Bessenitz ) is a market town in Okres Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic. It is located about six kilometers southwest of Trhové Sviny and belongs to the region South Bohemia,.

Geography

Besednice is located in the foothills of the mountain country in the chicken Novohradské Mountains, part of the National Park Soběnovská Highlands. Neighboring towns are Něchov ( Mechau ) in the north, and Keblany Mohuřice in the northeast, Slavče ( Slabsch ) in the east, Klení ( Gollnetschlag ) in the southeast, Soběnov in the south, southwest and Velešína Pořešín in the northwest. Southeast of the 869 m high rises Kohout (Hahn ). Close to the nature reserves " Vysoký Kámen " and " Ševcova hora " lie.

History

Bessenitz was first mentioned in 1395, when Henry III. donated by Rosenberg Besenicze the parish church of St. Vitus in Český Krumlov, whose goods it belonged until the abolition of patrimonial 1848. 1786 St. Procopius church was built and opened a school in the same year, in 1833 received a new building. From 1850 the town was part of the judicial district of Schweinitz, who later became part of the district Ceske Budejovice. 1910 Bessenitz was raised to the market town and started recording the community chronicle. Of economic importance were the granite and brick processing.

After the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918 Bessenitz received official Czech place name Besednice. After the Munich Agreement Besednice remained in Czechoslovakia between 1939-1945 and belonged to the political Budějovice in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

As a result of World War II took place in 1946, the expulsion of the German population. After the political changes of 1989 were carried out measures to improve the infrastructure. In 1995, the 600-year anniversary was celebrated. In the same year Besednice won third place in the competition " The most beautiful village in South Bohemia " and the prize " The blue ribbons ." On 10 October 2006 it was returned to the status of a Městys.
