Best of Bowie

Best of Bowie is a compilation of British musician David Bowie. It was published in October 2002 by EMI.

Creation and publication

Shortly after the release of David Bowie's 22 studio album Heathen came one by Nigel Reeve, Jo Brooks and Henry Wrenn - Meleck coordinated best-of compilation with pieces since the early days of Bowie's career, more precisely since his second self-titled album in 1969 on the market. Also, collaborations with other artists and movie soundtracks were considered. The compilation was mastered by Peter Mew at Abbey Road Studios. Up to Under Pressure all the pieces had been remastered in 1999 or 2002.

Best of Bowie appeared here with different track lists for the UK, the United States and Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some European, South American and Asian countries. Thus, however, the compilation embraced example, in the UK two CD's in Germany / Austria / Switzerland only a CD. Also, a DVD version with music videos and live recordings was available.

Reception

How many times in best-of compilations critics Best of Bowie were not always agree. So suspected Joachim Gauger of laut.de behind the different versions for different countries a marketing strategy, Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic called this " nightmare for the collector ." While Chris Jones of the BBC Music the variety of pieces and Erlewine praised the logical sequence of great hits, Gauger criticized the lack of popular songs and the selection of the German version of " Heroes " on the German edition.
