Formation and style

David Bowie took on low during the year 1976 and delivered the finished production time for the Christmas sale at the RCA from. The record company was so shocked that it was delaying the release to January 1977, after the first listen. This album has nothing to share with the large-area soul and disco - influenced predecessor station station, rather sound and mood on low are dark and introverted. Bowie and Eno make use of experimental sound creations, and electronic instruments such as the Minimoog. In addition, attended an extremely alienated drum sound and prepared guitars for originality, why low as his time is ahead. A musical influence had German bands such as Kraftwerk and Neu! .

At low there are only five vocal pieces. The texts are short fragments without traditional song structure with verse and chorus, with topics such as personality splits, psychosis and suicide. The instrumentals " Speed of Life " and "A New Career in a New Town" beat but also optimistic and lively tones. The second side of the LP contains four almost exclusively instrumental put forward, atmospheric -looking pieces that are dominated by synthesizer sounds. From low to Bowie has never created an alter ego for a music album such as Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust or The Thin White Duke.
