David Bowie (1969 album)

David Bowie, also known as Space Oddity, is the second studio album by David Bowie. It was released on November 4, 1969 at Philips Records in the UK. At Mercury Records in the U.S., it appeared at the same time under the title Man of Words / Man of Music. Later it was published several times as Space Oddity by RCA Records. An edition of 2009 returned to the original title David Bowie. The album is regarded as Bowie's first rock album.

Formation

The album Space Oddity with a known of Bowie's songs - it was written on the acoustic guitar and the Stylophone. The song was in 2001 by Stanley Kubrick: A Space Odyssey inspired and introduced the character Major Tom before. Overall, Bowie was to the orientation of Anthony Newley, which accounted for his earlier recordings. Instead, he turned to songwriting a mixture of styles to which can be described as a more progressive and psychedelic folk rock and has occasional influences from Bob Dylan.

Reception

Allmusic.com awarded 3 of 5 stars. Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the album "is not very cohesive, but it is charming, Especially in light of his later records. "
