Bill Berry (footballer born 1882)

William Alexander Berry ( * 1884 in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, † unknown) was an English footballer.

Career

Berry played in the local football Sunderland before 1902 for professional club Sunderland AFC, at that time the reigning English champions, came, there remained no obligation stake. After a season joined Berry to the Tottenham Hotspur in the Southern League. There he was on the center forward position with Vivian Woodward one of the best players of his time in front of him. Without a chance to Woodward to get past he completed in the three years of his club membership predominantly games for the reserve team. Berry, who received at Tottenham nicknamed Burglar ( Burglars dt ), joined in November 1906 in the Football League First Division to Manchester United. In Manchester Berry came immediately after his move mainly as a right winger for use, served there but only as an interim solution until the end of the year because of a bribery scandal to locked Billy Meredith was eligible to play.

In the 1907/08 season Manchester won the offensive series Meredith, Jimmy Bannister, Sandy Turnbull, Jimmy Turnbull and George Wall superior to the national championship, Berry came in the course of the season only three inserts and remained well below the inserts required for obtaining a championship medal. In February 1909, he was finally released to the transfer and went into the Second Division to Stockport County. With three goals in twelve missions, he helped the club until the end of the season on the third to last place in the table, so this avoided having to face a re-election for another league affiliation. After another season at Stockport ended his professional career in 1910 and he returned back to the Sunderland Royal Rovers.
