Bill Bollinger

Bill Bollinger ( born July 15, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York, † 27 May 1988 in Pine Plains, New York) was an American artist. He belonged to the late 1960s to the most important sculptors of his time, and was named in the same breath as Bruce Nauman, Robert Smithson, Eva Hesse and Richard Serra. His work can be assigned to the minimalism.

Life

Bill Bollinger studied from 1957 to 1961 aviation at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Iceland. In 1961 he moved to New York and briefly attended the Art Students League of New York. He occupied himself with painting. This year marked Bollinger as the beginning of his artistic activity. 1969 and 1971 he accepted a teaching position at the School of Visual Arts, New York. There followed in 1976 a teaching position at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Circa 1979/80 he received a teaching position at the University of Rhode Iceland.

Work

Bill Bollinger used in his works often industrially manufactured standard products. The artist explained his working style: "I 'm just doing what is necessary. There is no reason to use color to polish, bend, weld, if it is not necessary. "

1965-1968 was the work group of Channel Pieces. For this, added the artist extruded aluminum profiles to additive and rhythmic work together. It was followed by the Pipe Pieces of aluminum pipes with pipe fittings and the Rope Pieces from strained in space hemp ropes. In the 1968 to 1969 resulting Cyclone Fence Pieces, Chain Link Fence Pieces, Wire Pieces and Pieces Screen Bollinger worked with commercial wire mesh and woven wire mesh.
