Bílovec

Bílovec ( German Wagstadt, formerly Wokenstadt ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It lies in the Moravian-Silesian Region in the triangle Ostrava, Opava, Nový Jičín.

History

Wagstadt was first mentioned in 1276, the city survey was conducted 1316-1324 by Wok / Vok of Krawarn. In the 17th century it was an important center of textile industry. Between 1938 and 1945 Wagstadt was part of the district Wagstadt. Because of the Beneš Decrees of the German population was expropriated in 1945 and sold. Until 1960 Wagstadt was District town.

  • Gothic church of St. Nicholas from the 14th century
  • Renaissance Town Hall ( 1593) with a portico.
  • Renaissance castle from the 16th century
  • Baroque town house dating from the 18th century, today a museum
