Birgitta Trotzig

Birgitta Defiantly ( born September 11, 1929 in Gothenburg, † 14 May 2011) was a Swedish writer and critic, and since December 20, 1993 Member of the Swedish Academy.

Life

Birgitta Defiantly, born Kjellén was born in Gothenburg, the daughter of Oscar Kjellén lecturer and his wife Astri. After the matriculation examination in 1949 she married the artist Ulf defiantly. She studied literature and art history at the University of Gothenburg. In 1951, she debuted under the name Birgitta Defiantly with the collection of short stories Ur de älskandes live ( " From the Life of Love" ). Four years later she converted to Catholicism. She worked on the literary magazine Bonnier Litterära Magasin and the newspaper Aftonbladet. Defiantly lived 1955-1972 in Paris and was head of the Samfundet De Nio 1967-1993. Successor as Per Olof Sundmans she was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1993.

In her novels Defiantly examined from different perspectives the basic human dilemma: the man as a prisoner of his own ego and his own behavior patterns. The central theme in her books are guilt and relief, often with a Christian undertone, a balancing act between ethics and aesthetics.

" Birgitta Trotzigs poems and novels tell of the disasters of the twentieth century, but they do it in the refraction through the perspective of multiple marginalization. "

Under Trotzigs books of the Roman Dykungens dotter ( " Marsh King 's Daughter", German 1990) highlight, the title and the subject of Hans Christian Andersen was acquired. The book deals with the unwanted child, who is both a guiding light and ooze and of his life-long history of suffering and of his mother.

Birgitta Defiantly has also written collections of poetry.
