Bisten-en-Lorraine
Bisten -en- Lorraine ( Lorraine Beschten ém hole ) is a commune of 256 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs administratively to the district Boulay -Moselle and the eponymous canton Boulay- Moselle.
Geography
The municipality is situated approximately 30 kilometers east of Metz. Neighboring municipalities are:
- Coume in the north,
- Varsberg in the Northeast,
- Boucheporn in the southeast,
- Obervisse in the southwest and
- Niedervisse in the northwest.
The place is situated on the upper reaches of the river Are, which drained to the northeast and flows in Saarland, Germany, in the Saar.
History
The place was first mentioned in 1115 as Bistan, then Bistein ( 1393 ), Bisten In The Hole (1793), Bisten - in-hole (1801 ), and Bisten in Lorraine ( 1940-44 ).
