Blair Atholl

Blair Atholl ( from the Gaelic: BlaR Athall ) is a small village in the county of Perthshire in Scotland. It is located 56 km north of Perth at the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in a relatively flat area in the center of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place-name Blair (of BlaR = flat, level ) points out. Atholl, meaning " New Ireland ", is the name given to the surroundings of the place. The place is located in the Cairngorms National Park.

Traffic

The place is on the A9, the longest road in Scotland that runs from the Falkirk council area in central Scotland to Thurso on the northern tip of Scotland. Until the 1980s, the road ran right through the town.

The railway operator Highland Main Line maintains a station in town for the route Perth - Inverness.

North of the village is the Pass of Drumochter ( Scottish Gaelic: Bealach Druim Uachdair ), which is the main link between the Highlands to the north and the Southern Uplands.
