First sets

Formation

With the new 1951 created new Fernzugnetz the young Federal Railroad also wanted in relation Munich - Insert on the north- south route and the short route via Würzburg and Treuchtlingen a premium train, which was equipped only with the two former upholstery classes Hamburg. In the summer timetable of this train was listed as FT 55/56. But there was a lack of suitable free railcars, so that the train route not yet came. In the winter timetable 1951/52, an F- hauled train under the same number was recorded. Whether this but actually wrong, is today no longer be determined, but is considered probable. Undetectable is a Zugeinsatz from the summer timetable 1952.

Rolling stock

Until 1953 there was the train of pre-war cars of all application groups. Here was one of the prototype cars for the subsequent series of UIC -X cars of the DB, but only measured 22.5 meters in length and yet have bellows.

Henschel -Wegmann train

Car

From the summer timetable 1953, the train through the used cars from the long distance express trains was lifted: The set of the former Henschel - Wegmann train that led a lookout final car on the U.S. model ( pulpit cars), has been specially processed for this use. Due to problems in the reconstruction of the train set, which originally consisted of cars with compartments, second and third class, the DB decided generally to convert the train on the (then) second car class.

Due to the long running path filed a carriage set for circulation not. There was a second car set, called the Henschel -Wegmann return, prepared, which from the former saloon car of the Empire spokesman Otto Dietrich in apron wagon type (previously 10 251 ) and a cart of old DR- use group 28 and a cart of Use Group 35 consisted. In addition there was a dining car WR4ü - 28th

As a final car for this train composition for a third-class carriage of the type was 39 ( Schürzenwagen ) remodeled to include a the Henschel -Wegmann train comparable circuit car. He also distinguished by a rounded glass pulpit .. This set was retired after the class reform of 1956 and its circulation, which is now exclusively the (new ) resulted in first class, the usual UIC type cars A4üm -54 (Am 202) converted. The Henschel -Wegmann train was in circulation, however, hold until 1959.

Tension

In 1952, a Munich E 18 pulled the train to Treuchtlingen, here took a Würzburg 01 to Bebra. From Bebra hung a 1:10 Bw Bebra to Hanover and from there a 03 to Altona Hamburg.

The existing steam covering north of Würzburg gave way to diesel traction locomotives with the new series V 2000 (220). South of Würzburg were until the delivery of the new E - class E Series 10 (110 ) Altbauloks the series E 17 and E 18 to be seen in the trains.

As was the summer timetable 1963 between Würzburg and Hannover electrically driven, electric locomotives of the series E10.12 Bw Nürnberg were used here. The V200 remained on the non-electrified sections Hamburg -Hannover - Würzburg and Treuchtlingen. In the summer of 1965, these sections were electrified, took on new Bw Hamburg- Eidelstedt -based E10 to train on the entire path.

The pulpit car of the second set belongs today to the existence of the Nürnberg Transportation Museum. With a dining car and two matching Schnellzugwagen it is used in charter and tourist traffic than the F- train Blauer Enzian. Location is Berlin. Is looked after car set e by the club Traditionszug Berlin V.

Name

The name " Blauer Enzian " that the connection was wearing since 1953, was the result of a contest that was held among the passengers. Here, the name " Blauer Enzian " emerged as a winner. Gentian is like the edelweiss an Alpine flower and medicinal plant. In Europe, about 35 gentian species grow mainly in the Alps. Perhaps because of her rare in the plant kingdom pure blue and bright flower color, were and they are considered as a symbol of loyalty and are mentioned in poems and songs. Track layout and color scheme of the train may explain the association.

TEA

The E -Lok fabric stretched with progressive electrification further and further to the north. In 1963 she was possible to Hanover, in 1965 it reached Hamburg. At the same time the Blue Gentian was reclassified to TEA and converted the car accordingly. The train now consisted of two compartment wagon type A4vüm -65 ( Avmz 111 ), two Großraumwagen A4püm ( Apmz 121) a dining car of the type WRmz 132 and a bar car ARDmz 105 In the autumn of the same year the new test machine the E 03 series were ( 103) between Nuremberg, which now lay on the path of the TEA 55/56 and Hamburg covered. The TEE was 1966 with an average cruising speed of 106 km / h, fastest train of the DB. In 1967, the train number in 554/55 has been changed.

The Bar Cart accounted for already in 1969. DB planned to link the Blue Einzian with the trains running from Munich to Milan TEE Mediolanum. But that failed because of the Italian Railways ( FS) and the Austrian Federal Railways ( ÖBB). For this was the Blue Gentian from Munich via Salzburg, Bischofshofen, Schwarzach -St. Veit, Bad Gastein and extended Villach to Klagenfurt. Between Munich and Salzburg, the train as F 54/55, at the ÖBB as Ex 549/550. In the winter timetable was driven from Munich to Kufstein and Wörgl and other Tyrolean places to Zell am See.

In the summer of 1970, when the train was now covered with series locomotives of the series 103, the train number changed in TEA 80/81. In Rosenheim, the train was divided. Some drove over Salzburg to Klagenfurt, the Zell am See, the latter reinforced others about Kufstein by ÖBB cars. Since the dining car in Klagenfurt pulling part remained, furnished with a minibar, travelers in the Zeller coaches. In winter schedule extensions beyond Munich was only offered on certain days. In the summer there was the train parts to Klagenfurt and cell daily. In Zeller part of a Bar Cart ARDmz was again classified.

With the start of the winter timetable 1971/72 of TEE Blue Gentian has been integrated into the new inter-city network of DB. He was now referred to as IC 90/91. In 1975, the tensile member to Zell am See has been abandoned.

With the beginning of the intercity network IC '79 of Blue Gentian was converted into an IC with the train numbers 120/121 and now also introduced the second car class. The path has been changed to Braunschweig -Hannover- Cologne -Frankfurt- Munich as part of the IC line 2. The continuation to Klagenfurt was retained. In 1981 the runway was shortened to Dortmund -Klagenfurt, 1985, the train number in IC changed 20/21.

With the launch of the Euro City -Systems 1987 Blue Gentian as EC was 20/21 down, with coaches to Ljubljana. In the 1990s there were two EC trains between Dortmund and Klagenfurt. As EC 114/115 now drove the Blue Gentian, the former D- train " Wörthersee " as EC 112/113. As a result, the names are omitted in both trains, EC 114/115 operates today as Wörthersee with ÖBB cars.
