Bob Webster

Robert David Webster ( born October 25, 1938 in Berkeley, California ) is a former American diver who was twice Olympic champion in diving.

He won his first college competition when he was at a college in California, which had no swimming facility. After his victory, he moved to Michigan, where he was able to train with Bruce Harlan and Dick Kimball.

At the Pan American Games in 1959 Webster won the bronze medal. In Rome at the Olympic Games in 1960 he won the competition in the tower jumping ahead of compatriot Gary Tobian, who was four days earlier became Olympic champion in springboard diving.

After his Olympic victory Webster was trained by Samuel Lee. In 1963 he succeeded at the Pan American Games as the first Americans of the double victory in the arts and diving. In Tokyo, at the Olympic Games in 1964, he joined only in diving. He won gold in front of Klaus Dibiasi and was by Samuel Lee, the second diver, who was twice Olympic champion on the turret.

After his career Webster worked at various universities as a coach. In 1970 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport. In 1971, he managed the U.S. team at the Pan American Games.
