Bobby Shearer

Robert " Bobby" Shearer ( born December 29, 1931 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire; † 5 November 2006 called Captain Cutlass ) was a Scottish football player and football coach.

The defender was mainly in the Glasgow Rangers under contract and played four games for the Scottish national team.

Career

Bobby Shearer's professional career began in 1950 at his hometown club Hamilton Academical.

In December 1955 Shearer joined the national top club Glasgow Rangers, with whom he celebrated his greatest successes in the next ten years. In addition to four successes in Cup and League Cup, the Rangers could bring the national championship to Ibrox also five times. In 1964 Bobby Shearer the team as captain for the triple, winning all three titles in one season.

The greatest success of the Rangers at the international level at this time was the finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1961, which was lost to Fiorentina.

Bobby Shearer was considered a leader in the Rangers team of the early 1960s, which is considered one of the best in the club's history. Overall, he competed in 407 games in all competitions for the Light Blues.

In 1961, Bobby played his only four appearances for the Scottish national football team. He made his debut at a historic 3:9 defeat against England at Wembley Stadium; it was followed by three games in the qualifiers for the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile, in which Scotland lost to Czechoslovakia and did not qualify.

After he left the Rangers in 1965, Shearer had a brief career as a coach; he coached Queen of the South, Third Lanark and Hamilton Academical, where he had already been active as a player. He also went after his business interests and worked in the construction industry.

Bobby Shearer died in 2006 at the age of 74 years.
