Boggabri

Boggabri is a small town in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales. The city lies between Gunnedah and Narrabri on the Namoi River. It belongs to the Local Government Area Narrabri Shire and at the 2006 census, 901 inhabitants were noted.

Origin of the name

The name comes from the language of the Boggabri local Aboriginesstammes the Gamilaraay. The term bagaaybaraay in German means literally " has streams ". In place names Boggabilla (on the Queensland border, south of Goondiwindi ) we find the same word element.

Public institutions

In Boggabri, there are two primary schools, one public and one religious.

The town also has the John Prior Multipurpose Health Serveice is home to a modern medical center, which was according to one of the most famous inhabitants of Boggabri, Dr. John Prior, winner of the Order of Australia, named the long over half a century in the city worked.

Traffic

Boggabri is located on the Kamilaroi Highway (Australian Route 37 ), one of the more important highways in New England. He connects with Quirindi Bourke.

The main train station is located on the Northwest rail line to Mungindi, 515 rail kilometers from Sydney. The station opened in 1882 consists of a station building on single platform, a thoroughfare rail and a small Güterhof. Currently operated in each direction, a diesel -powered train station ( 10.02 clock to Sydney to Moree and 16.47 clock ).

Tourism

Fish in the Namoi River is popular with tourists.

However, the most important attraction is Gin 's Leap, a cliff, which was named after a Aboriginemädchen who according to legend jumped down in the 17th or 18th century from there to escape a group of men.

Sports

1946 rugby player Trevor Eather from Boggabri was selected for the Australian national rugby team.
