Bognor Regis
Bognor Regis [ i ː ‿ bɒgnɔɹ dʒɪs ] is a seaside resort in West Sussex in southern England with 22,555 inhabitants on the English Channel. Bognor Regis has an eight kilometer long beach and is a holiday and health resort.
History
In the Middle Ages the town was founded as a fishing village by the name Bornor and developed in the 18th century into a holiday resort. Many buildings such as the Dome House (now a teacher training school ) were built in the Georgian style. Since 1929, the place is called Bognor Regis ( literally " The King Bognor ", latin registered is the genitive case of rex 'king' ), because King George V there cured a serious illness. From 1800 to 1803 the English poet William Blake lived in the nearby village of Felpham.
Traffic
The rail connection is made by a branch line of the West Coastway Line, which branches off from the main line in Barnham.
In Bognor Regis the highway A 29 encounters the A 259 ( Chichester - Brighton ).
