Borçka

Borçka is a city in the province of Artvin in northeastern Turkey. The town has 10,702 inhabitants Borçka and the entire district Borçka 24 343 (2009). The district is located in the north of the province, bordering the Georgian Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Location

Borçka located about 35 kilometers east of the Black Sea coastal town of Hopa. 1.5 km south of the town is on the river Çoruh Borçka Dam. Through the valley of the expressway from Hopa Artvin leads to a side road branches off in a southwesterly direction into Murgul Ostpontische Mountains from.

History and cityscape

1364 Before Borçka temporarily belonged to the Empire of Trebizond. Sources from this period mention probably the place under the name Bourzo. From the 19th century, a river bridge remained.
