Bothnia Line

Botniabanan (German Bothnia ) is a Swedish single-track railway line with a total length of 190 km and runs from Västeraspby about Örnsköldsvik and Umeå Nordmaling after Gimonäs. The route branches off from Ådalsbanan near the airfield Kramfors Sollefteå from crosses 140 bridges and passes through 25 km tunnel. History

The Bothnia Line is the largest investment in the Swedish rail transport since 1937. Newspaper sources, however, spoke of overly optimistic assumptions, massive cost overruns and unreached goals.

Construction of the line was decided by the Swedish Parliament in 1997, construction began on 14 August 1999. The Bothnia Line is the first railway line in Sweden, which is equipped with the European Train Control System.
