Bottle Shock

Bottle Shock is an American comedy from 2008. Directed by Randall Miller, who also wrote the screenplay with Jody Savin and Ross Schwartz.

Action

The action takes place in 1976. Jim Barrett and his son Bo operate vineyards in the Napa Valley. Since Jim Barrett wants to make the wine perfectly, however, the sale is delayed more and more, so Barrett gets into financial difficulties and has several loans at the bank.

At the winery Gustavo, a Mexican immigrant works. He is good friends with Bo Barrett. To discrepancies occur when Sam, the new assistant Jim Barrett appears. It is about the same age as Gustavo and Bo, both showing interest in her. Gustavo has also made ​​together with another farmer own wine, which means that he is released by Jim Barrett.

Simultaneously, the Paris-based British wine merchant Steven Spurrier travels to Napa Valley, where it costs the local wines for a blind tasting organized by him through the wine jury of Paris. Also, the " Chateau Montelena " by Barrett wants Spurrier can cost in Paris, but Jim Barrett rejects this. At the last moment presents Bo Barrett two bottles of wine at the airport, so the wine can still be tasted.

Jim Barrett notes that his wine now though tastes tremendously well, but is brown. He wants to destroy the wine, but the wine from the bartender Joe is purchased from the two drivers who are supposed to take him to the landfill. Bo Barrett has now found out with the help of Sam and a fellow winemaker, the wine gets back to its original color after a few days. Add the wine, they get back from the barmaid Joe, so the money troubles seem to be forgotten. Also Gustavo is set again.

Finally, Bo Barrett is sent as a representative of the American winemakers to France for wine tasting. There, the " Chateau Montelena " wins for the whites.

Robert Koehler wrote in the journal Variety January 18, 2008, there were some script weaknesses - the movie bein think too much to handle, it can ( "contains too much to manage it "). Background

The story of the film is based on a true story. The wine jury of Paris there was really 1976, the wine critic Steven Spurrier there. The winery Chateau Montelena still exists today and was operated until July 2008 by Jim and Bo Barrett himself, then sold.
