Brandvlei is a small town in the municipality Hantam, Namakwa District, Northern Cape Province in the Republic of South Africa. It is located 120 kilometers from Loeriesfontein in the crossing region of the R27 and R357 roads. In 2011 it had 2,859 Einwocher.

Named the city is named after a Voortrekker with surname fire. He camped at this point when Sakrivier, a dry river that runs only after heavy rains water. Vlei means "swamp " in Afrikaans, a misnomer, since there is seldom here water. Today's arid semi desert landscape around the city was subtropical during the Miocene; many fossils prove this.

Attractions

Nearby Brandvleis there are several salt pans. The most famous is the Verneukpan northeast of the city. This salt pan became famous in 1929 by the world record attempts by the multiple speed record holder Malcolm Campbell.
