Brandýs nad Orlicí

Brandys nad Orlicí ( German Brandeis to the eagle ) is a town in the region Pardubice region in the Czech Republic.

Location

The city stretches along the banks of the Silent Eagle ( Ticha Orlice ), about eleven kilometers from the district town of Ústí nad Orlicí away. By Brandys the rail link from Pardubice leads to Česká Třebová.

History

Brandeis was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century, when Heinrich von Brandis, a descendant of the Saxon noble family von Brandis, had built a castle here. This was in the 15th and 16th centuries to the noble family Kostka of Postupice. With their permission Brethren in Brandeis settled from 1457, among them Rehor Krajči who died here in 1474. 1490 held the Brethren a synod at Brandeis from. 1506 acquired Wilhelm II of Pernštejna castle and lordship Brandeis and 1558 included the lands of the lords of Žerotín. The most famous owner of the domain Brandeis was Karl Elder. Žerotín, who was born here in 1564 and during the recatholicization numerous supporters of the Brethren sought refuge, including 1622-1625 Johann Amos Comenius.

Since the mid-17th century included the lands of the noble family Trauttmansdorff, 1781 was here also build the castle. In the second half of the 19th century Brandys was a popular outing in the met many celebrities, including Professor Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the writer Julius Zeyer and Karel Václav Rais and later Alois Jirásek and others.
