Branford Boase Award

The Branford Boase Award is a British literary prize, which is awarded annually in July to the author of an outstanding, first youth book by this author. The prize is worth £ 1,000. In addition, the author and the publisher of the winning book receives a black box with the silver-plated logo of the competition.

Background

The price thus trying to honor those who had worked closely for many years and finally in quick succession both died from cancer in 1999 the memory of the children's book author Henrietta Branford and the production manager of the independent children's and youth book publisher Walker Books, Wendy Boase. The foundation of the price under this name was a common idea of Julia Eccleshare and Anne Marley. Accompanying the price of the annual Henrietta Branford Writing Competition for under 19 -year-old junior authors.

The jury includes in addition to the chairman, Julia Eccleshare, children's book editor of the Guardian and literary critic, librarian Tricia Adams, the freelance Researcher Helen Boyle and or the most recent winner of the Branford Boase Award.

Submitted 20 tracks on the first competition, so it was in 2010 already 60 candidates.
