Branimir of Croatia

Branimir ( † about 892 ) was a Croatian Knez ( Prince ), and ruled from 879 until his death on the küstenländische Croatia ( Primorska Hrvatska).

Life

Little is known about the reign Branimir. He set down his predecessor Zdeslav and killed them. Since Zdeslav was allied with the Byzantine Emperor, to Branimir turned to the Pope John VIII with a request for recognition of his government. This welcomed the change in the balance of power as a return to the bosom of the Roman Church, he was able to attract and keep Croatia to the Western Church.

Some historians are of the opinion that it could be Domagojs prince, a member of the House Domagojević, especially one of the sons.
