Breaking the Silence is the debut album by the American thrash metal band Heathen. It was published on 1 May 1987 on Combat Records.

Formation

In 1984, Lee Altus began, influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the large amount of thrash bands in the Bay Area (eg Exodus, Metallica and many more. ), For its part, also set up a band. After several line-up changes in the early days Heathen finally plays in the occupation of David Godfrey, Lee Altus, Doug Piercy, Mike Jastremski and Carl Sacco Breaking the Silence as a debut album. In 1986 the band's demo Pray For Death had published, which provided the scene for attention.

Songs

The ninth song Heathen is a bonus song that is not present on the original vinyl release. The tracks 10 to 13 are included on the 1999 and the 2008 rerelease as a further bonus, and are the original versions of the Demo Pray For Death ( 1986). Through this demo, the band managed to get their first record deal.

With Set Me Free album also contains a cover of Sweet songs of 1974. This song was released as a single in 1987.

Publication

Breaking the Silence was released on 1 May 1987 as the record with eight tracks. The CD release contained entitled Heathen as a bonus track nine songs. After the CD was hard to find for a long time came in 1999 and 2008 editions on the market that also contain the complete demo Pray for Death.

Reception

Breaking the Silence sold quite well and is now next to Bonded by Blood by Exodus as a classic of the genre.
