Brian McGuinness

Brian McGuinness ( born October 22, 1927 in Wrexham, Wales as Bernard Francis McGuinness) is a British philosopher. His work and publications are primarily the life and work of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle.

Life

McGuinness visited the 1938-1945 Mount St. Mary 's College in Sheffield and studied from 1945 to 1953 at the University of Oxford. There he was a student of Balliol College.

McGuinness is a disciple of R. M. Hare. He was 1953-1988 Fellow and Tutor at Queen's College, Oxford University. 1988 to 1990 he was a " Fellow -in- Residence " at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study ( NIAS ) in Wassenaar. Since 1990 he is professor at the University of Siena (Italy ), from 1990 to 1993 he headed the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy.
