Bridport, Tasmania

Bridport is a town in the northeast of the Australian state of Tasmania. It lies on the Anderson Bay on the north coast of the island and is part of the Local Government Area Dorset Municipality. At the 2006 census, 1,327 inhabitants were counted.

The roads in the northern half of Bridport are provided with the names of men who with in the southern half of women's names.

Facilities

In the city there are supermarkets, hotels, a pharmacy, a bakery, a butcher, a clothing store, golf courses, Bowl courts, a sailing club, a small hospital, a visitor information center, a campground and a number of accommodation options from the hostel about Bed & Breakfast up to holiday resorts.

Traffic

The nearest towns are 19 km southeast Scottsdale, Tomahawk in the Ringarooma Bay 38 km east of Noland and Bellingham Bay 19 km west.

Flinders Iceland, part of the Furneaux group, with a ferry from Bridport reachable. From Bridport Aerodrome a small plane flies also there.

Leisure

Bridport is a popular resort with beautiful beaches for swimming, sailing and other water sports.

In Bridport are from both commercial fishing and recreational fishing from the rocks or small boats.

Golf

2004 Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course was set up in the sand dunes 3 km northeast of Bridport. He soon became one of the top 50 golf courses in the world. Another golf course, Lost Farm, was built entirely around and opened in December 2010. He met one as high a standard as the former and has clubhouses high on the sand dunes, allowing a spectacular view of the beach and the Anderson Bay.

2008, a helicopter service was established, which takes guests from Launceston to Bridport. He is especially golfers who come to Tasmania just to play.
