British Rail Class 380

Vehicles of the British class 380 are three - (Class 380/ 0) and four-part (Class 380/1 ) electric multiple units ( EMU - electric multiple unit ) from the model developed by Siemens Mobility Desiro vehicle concept. This aluminum vehicles have been running since the end of 2010 in Scotland.

Manufacturers and operators

On 28 July 2008, the company was awarded Siemens Mobility ( now Siemens Rail Systems ) from the operator First ScotRail and the Scottish Office commissioned a total of 38 railcars Desiro UK Class 380, including 22 three-piece and 16 four-part sets. The value of the contract, including maintenance is around 300 million euros. The production took place until early 2011 in Krefeld- Uerdingen since autumn 2009. The commissioning took place in Wegberg -Wildenrath, where on July 1, 2010, the official roll-out took place.

In autumn 2010, a depot for the maintenance of the trains by the manufacturer was put into operation in Glasgow ( Polmadie ).

Customer and operator is the British railway company First ScotRail, a subsidiary of First Group.

Stretch

The Class 380 as the operator designates the series, is operated on the Ayrshire Coast Line between Glasgow and Largs, on the Inverclyde Line between Glasgow and Gourock and on the North Berwick line between Glasgow and Dunbar.

The mock -up, a demonstration model in the original size of the Siemens Desiro the British class 380 was presented to the public in Glasgow Central Station On May 6, 2009.
