The Bundara River ( formerly Bundara Mungee River or Bundarah River) is a river in Gippsland in the east of the Australian state of Victoria.

It rises east of Mount Hotham and Mount hole in the Australian Alps and flows east- southeast. Approx. 2 km north of the settlement Anglers Rest it flows into Big River.

River

The Bundara River rises east of the ski area at Mount Hotham ( 1,868 m) and Mount hole ( 1,887 m) in the Alpine National Park at an altitude of 1,420 m.

The river flows to the east - southeast, almost along its entire length through the National Park. About 2 km north of Anglers Rest crosses the Omeo Highway the river that flows about 100 m further north at an altitude of 650 m in the Big River. The Big River, in turn, together with the Cobungra River just a bit further south Mitta Mitta River the.

Tributaries with muzzle heights

  • Emu Creek - 731 m

They originate on the southern slopes of Mount Jim ( 1,818 m), Mount Bundara ( 1,741 m) and Mount Cope ( 1,837 m), and from the hills east of the main ridge of the Australian Alps.

Water quality

The Bundara River and its tributaries are protected in the National Park. Most watercourses in the Mitta Mitta - Basin are as good to excellent water quality classified. Vast forests cover most of their catchment areas. Despite deforestation and damage the river banks by cattle little effect on the quality of river habitat is quite good in general.

The Bundara River is considered a good fishing waters especially for brown trout. The river is subject to the Victorian River Health Program of the North East Catchment Management Authority.

Beginning of 2003 were affected by extensive forest fires wide forest areas on Bundara River and its tributaries. For almost two months burned thousands of acres bushland. The damage to the vegetation had for quite some time have an impact on water quality desFlusses.
