Course

Sections

The highway consists of three sections:

  • German - Dutch border at Niederkruechten - Mönchengladbach - Dusseldorf - Heerdt
  • Dusseldorf - Moersenbroich - Essen-Ost ( on the Ruhr valley bridge Mülheim )
  • Gladbeck - Gelsenkirchen- Buer - Marl -Nord

Gaps and fill gaps

Düsseldorf North West

From Dusseldorf - Dusseldorf - Heerdt to Moersenbroich the route is passed through as the B 7 and B 1 through the northern Düsseldorf city center. It runs it directly through the Mörsenbroicher egg.

As an alternative, you can either drive from the interchange Dusseldorf North to Neersen via the A44 or the A44 you go only to cross the sea bush and then gives way to the Cross Kaarst via the A57.

North of Essen

Between the motorway junction Essen -Ost junction (formerly Cross) Essen-Nord on the A42 there is, unlike in Dusseldorf, no well-developed gap closure. From there, the B 224 to Gladbeck expanded largely highway-like, and there are several beampelte intersections where it is jammed regularly. The junction Essen / Gladbeck on the A 2 is already partially expanded without crossing.

Special

A special feature is the Heerdter triangle (also called " branch Rheinkniebrücke " ) in Dusseldorf - Heerdt on the border with Upper Kassel. At this point, the three-lane B 7 forks under division of the middle lane into two two-lane highways. North of the two-lane B 7 lists the Theodor Heuss Bridge. The southern highway runs underground parallel to the Rhine to the Rheinkniebrücke.

Another special feature is the route in the area Gelsenkirchen- Scholven. Here the branch of the planned A 41 is structurally prepared, whereby the direction roadways are performed spatially separated.

In contrast, as it represents the distance band that interchanges food Pigtails and food Ruettenscheid are created nested; Coming from Bochum for example, in the following order: Departure Ruettenscheid - Departure Pigtails - driveway Ruettenscheid. This is made possible by both sides lying parallel in this section Norbertstrasse, which acts as a local road to the highway.

Planning / construction

Continue to Roermond

The Governments of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany in an international treaty obligation to link their motorway networks further. The project was funded by the EU, as this improves the trans-European networks.

From the Dutch A73 near Roermond to the German- Dutch border, the national road N 280 was expanded highway-like.

On 18 May 2009 the section between the Dutch border and Elmpt was released.

Expansion in Mönchengladbach

It is also planned to bring the A 52 to extend between the cross and the Mönchengladbach Neersen from two to three lanes in each carriageway. These works have in Neersen interchange already begun (see also Federal Highway 44).

Rehabilitation of the Ruhr valley bridge

The Ruhr valley bridge between the interchange broad- and food -Kettwig was renovated from 2001 to 2005. During construction, each of which had taken place in the summer months, both directions had been only one lane, connected to a driving ban for vehicles with a total weight of over 16 tons. On the assumption that the steel transition elements " last longer " would, they had been excluded from the renovation. Since this assumption turned out to be false, and the transitions are corroded by road salt and water action, the country's Road Authority has recognized the rehabilitation for the period 1 July until 30 September 2013. During this period, the A 52 between the Breitscheid and the junction Essen- Kettwig completely blocked in the direction of travel food. The lanes in direction of travel Dusseldorf remain open, but are temporarily out of the ( locked ) counter- carriageways.

Further construction in Essen and Gladbeck

Is being planned for some time, the expansion of the missing links between A40 ( junction Essen-Ost ) and A42 ( junction Essen -Nord), and from there to the A 2 ( Cross Gladbeck ). Especially against the cuts through the densely built-up areas of food and Gladbeck there is resistance, which is mainly supported by local citizens' initiatives. This is particularly the route of the A52 from Marl to the planned AK Gladbeck in the criticism, because you could not agree on a final design until today. On 21 January 2009, the planning documents for the section between the AK Essen-Nord and Bottrop as part of the planning approval process have been designed from the city of Essen.

2009, neither current plans a completion deadline of the last section between Essen-Ost and Essen-Nord for the year 2023.

On 17 February 2011 reported the West German Allgemeine Zeitung, the expansion of A 52 to Essen city area should no longer take place due to lack of reimbursement by the federal government and the urban poor tolerability.

On March 25, 2012 resulted in a referendum, at which about 23,000 Gladbecker involved that Gladbecker not want to subsidize with two million euros planned as so-called "tunnel solution " expansion of B224 on Gladbeck city. The result of the citizens' decision had precipitated with 55.9 % to 44.1 %. Originally it was an above-ground space closure player, but then a solution in the form of a tunnel had been planned, to which a green avenue should be placed. However, the country Straßen.NRW not exclude at present that the portion of food is past realized at Bottrop and Essen-Nord to the Cross Gladbeck and thus the expansion of the junction Essen / Gladbeck Gladbeck the motorway junction.

Others

On 24 November 2006, a small plane coming from Berlin from the Piper PA -34 crashed the VHM school and charter flights due to fuel shortage on the A52 at junction Essen- Pigtails. Seven people were injured, also led the event for damage to vehicles and infrastructure. As a result of the incident, the traffic jammed in both directions up to 10 km in length.

Because of risk of air transport, the pilot was sentenced to a prison term of 15 months ' probation and to pay a fine of € 20,000. He also lost his pilot's license. Due to the established gross negligence on the acquisition of the leased aircraft, the resulting damage to the machine in the amount of € 150,000 was not reimbursed by the insurance of the aircraft.
