Burapha University

The Burapha University ( Thai: มหาวิทยาลัย บูรพา, such as University of the East) is one of the major public universities in Thailand with three campuses.

Location

The Chonburi Campus is located in the town of Bang Saen in Chonburi province in the eastern part of central Thailand. The Chanthaburi Campus is located in the district of Tha Mai Chanthaburi province. The Sakaeo campus is located in Watthana Nakhon district in the province of Sa Kaeo.

History

The predecessor of the university was the Bangsaen College of Teacher Education, which opened in 1955. It was the first teacher training institution in Thailand outside of Bangkok. In 1974 the college was as a separate campus integrated into the Srinakharinwirot University named Srinakharinwirot University, Bangsaen Campus. The Bangsaen Campus now expanded its course offerings also on further training courses. In 1988, the Cabinet decided that the existing university to be converted into a new university with the Bangsaen Campus. On 29 July 1990, the existing University Burapha University was renamed what it means to be German about University of the East. Today, the University has three campuses.

General

On the approximately one square kilometer main campus in Bang Saen study about 35,000 students (as of 2008). They are supervised by 500 teachers and 300 other employees. There are 50 study programs, including 30 master's programs, one Ed.D. ( Doctor of Education ) and a Ph.D. ( Doctor of Philosophy ). President of the University is Prof. Sompol Pongthai

Faculties

The University has 15 faculties and colleges, including the departments of humanities and social sciences, teaching, nursing, public health, natural sciences, engineering, arts and marine engineering.

Furthermore, there is in the University an Institute of Marine Research, the aquarium is a major tourist attraction. The library, administration building, a PC pool are other facilities of the university. DieUniversitätsklinik is responsible for the medical care of the population.
