The castle lake is located in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Schwerin directly at Schwerin Castle. It is separated as the eastern bay from Schwerin lake by the castle island and two bridges of this. It has an area of 11 hectares. Originally, he had two tributaries, namely the Ostorfer lake with Lake Schwerin connecting Seeke (now under the place of youth ) and the flow moat (now under the Mecklenburgstraße ) from her Pfaff pond; the Seeke was diverted in the early modern parallel to the west bank to supply the flow ditch as part of the western city wall with water.

Flora and Fauna

In the area of the castle lake several bat species that have their beds in the castle come before. It traces of otters have been documented. In addition, 13 species of dragonflies, 22 fish species, four amphibian species and 70 bird species were observed.

Remodeling

At the Federal Garden Show 2009, the castle lake was redesigned for about 23 million euros. The hitherto 8.7 acre lake from April to August 2007 was extended south on now 11.1 acres by the dredging.
